JOB TITLE: Network Administrator
40 - 45K - hourly position with overtime
DEPARTMENT: Information Technology
REPORTS TO: Manager, Systems Support
JOB PURPOSE
Responsible for participating in the support of all mission critical
production environments within the Systems Support group. Primary
responsibilities include planning, implementing and maintaining all
networking devices both local and wide area. Secondary responsibilities
include overseeing of day-to-day local area network operations. Provide
technical support for internal and external customers.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
Ø Planning, design, procurement and installation of all networking hardware,
software, maintenance, service and support.
Ø Deal effectively with Cisco LAN technologies (switches, Layer 2 and 3,
10/100/1000 ethernet, Fiber, CAT5e, CAT6e)
Ø Performs Network and VPN Server troubleshooting, diagnostics, research,
evaluation & documentation of various data communications solutions and
alternatives. Consults with technical staff, vendors & consultants when the
cause of the problem is not apparent.
Ø Provides in-depth problem diagnosis and recommend/document any additional
procedures as required.
Ø Assist with administration, maintenance and regular testing of our
emergency recovery site.
Ø Interact with the user community to provide a smooth operating environment
and trouble free host, network and Internet connectivity.
Ø Assist in the requirements planning for implementation and expansion.
Ø Monitor Network making changes required to maintain optimal performance.
Ø Support remote users in maintenance of VPN servers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Computer Science Degree or equivalent job experience with related technical
courses
Tools: Nagios, MRTG, sniffers, analyzers, Office suite, Visio etc.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with various Cisco hardware products.
Nortel Contivity VPN server experience, Microsoft suite of products,
Wireless networking implementations, Marconi ATM and Enterasys knowledge an
asset. Excellent knowledge of Cisco systems.
Communication Skills:
Excellent Communications skills with ability to work as a team player
Ability to communicate professionally with all levels of management and
associates
